Preferences Configuration
Legal preference categories are surfaced to end-users via your Preferences message and enable you to provide notification of and/or collect agreements to legal documents (configured in the Legal Document Library) used by your organization. In this article, we will cover how to:
- Add Legal preference category to configuration
- Edit Legal preference category to configuration
- Delete Legal preference category to configuration

To start, click Preferences on the left-hand panel and select Configurations.
Select a configuration from the subsequent list.
From the selected configuration page, navigate to the Legal Preferences section and click Manage Categories.
Add Legal preference category to configuration
Click + Add Legal Preference Category.
Add the following fields for the category:
Field | Description |
Category Name | The name of the Legal preference category. |
Document Type |
The document type assigned to the Legal preference category will be used to map the category to a scenario gate (e.g. AI Policy, Privacy Policy, etc...) within the scenario builder which can be used to target a message for end-users. If no targeting is used for this legal preference category in your scenario, select None from the dropdown menu. Note: Be aware that once the Legal preference category is saved, you will not be able to edit the Document Type field. |
Legal Document | Select a legal document added to your Preferences Legal Document Library to associate with the category. If you have selected None in the Document Type field than this field is optional. |
Default User State | Define the default consent state for the end-user in regards to the Legal preference category (opted-in/opted-out) |
Description | An optional description of the Legal preference category. This description will accompany the category name within your Preferences message. |
Click Add Category when finished.
The new category will be added to your list of categories. Click Save to confirm the addition.
Edit Legal preference category to configuration
Click the Edit icon inline with a category name from the subsequent list.
Edit the following fields for the category:

Category Name | The name of the Legal preference category. |
Document Type |
Note: Once the Legal preference category is saved, you will not be able to edit the Document Type field. |
Legal Document | Select a legal document added to your Preferences Legal Document Library to associate with the legal preference category. If you have selected None in the Document Type field than this field is optional. |
Default User State | Define the default consent state for the end-user in regards to the Legal preferences category (opted-in/opted-out) |
Description | An optional description of the Legal preferences category. This description will accompany the category name within your Preferences message. |
Click Save when finished.
Click Save to confirm the edits.
Delete Legal preference category to configuration
Click the Delete icon inline with a category name from the subsequent list. Confirm the decision to delete the category in the popup and click Yes.
Click Save to confirm the deletion.
