Marketing Preference categories are the subscriptions, topics, or other marketing preferences that are displayed to the user via your Universal Consent and Preferences message. In this article, we will cover how to:
- Add Marketing Preference category to configuration
- Edit Marketing Preference category in configuration
- Delete Marketing Preference category in configuration

To start, click Universal Consent and Preferences on the left-hand panel and select a configuration from the subsequent list.
From the selected configuration page, navigate to the Marketing Preferences section and click Manage Categories.
Add Marketing Preference category to configuration
Click Add Marketing Preference Category.
Add the following fields for the category:
| Field | Description |
| Category Name | The name of the Marketing Preference category. |
| Channels | Communication methods that will be used to contact the end-user. These selections will appear as selectable options within your Universal Consent and Preference message for the category. |
| Legal Document | An optional field that allows you to associate a relevant legal document that you have added to the Legal Document Library with the current Marketing Preference category. |
| Default User State | Define the default consent state for the end-user in regards to the Marketing Preference category (opt-in/opt-out) |
| Description | An optional description of the Marketing Preference category. This description will accompany the category name within your Universal Consent and Preferences message. |
Click Add Category when finished.
The new category will be added to your list of categories. Click Save to confirm the addition.
Edit Marketing Preference category in configuration
Click the Edit icon inline with a category name from the subsequent list.
Edit the following fields for the category:

| Category Name | The name of the Marketing Preference category. |
| Channels | Communication methods that will be used to contact the end-user. These selections will appear as selectable options within your Universal Consent and Preference message for the category. |
| Legal Document | An optional field that allows you to associate a relevant legal document that you have added to the Legal Document Library with the current Marketing Preference category. |
| Default User State | Define the default consent state for the end-user in regards to the Marketing Preference category (opt-in/opt-out) |
| Description | An optional description of the Marketing Preference category. This description will accompany the category name within your Universal Consent and Preferences message. |
Click Save when finished.
Click Save to confirm the edits.
Delete Marketing Preference category in configuration
Click the Delete icon inline with a category name from the subsequent list. Confirm the decision to delete the connection in the popup and click Yes.
Click Save to confirm the deletion.
